Miss a Day, Miss Nothing.

[I hate the Plain Dealer.](http://www.cleveland.com/living/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/living/1139218568203630.xml&coll=2&thispage=1)

Except when I love it, which isn’t very often. I get my meatier news from the wire, which means that I read the PD for fluff and opinion, and that means I don’t read it often. I make it a point to avoid things that piss me off and the PD tends to have that effect on me. I have a family history of heart disease and high blood pressure along with a _very_ low tolerance for stupidity, which makes it hard to live a life of grace. I try and make that life happen by avoiding meaningless strife but, every once in a while, I forget and I read the PD. These lapses in good judgement usually come when Connie Schultz has some inane column bemoaning the lack of women in journalism or discussing the coarseness of bloggers.

Connie: you have a Pulitzer. We know you can write, so why do you keep casting pearls amongst swine by writing banal swill like this? Please, oh pretty please, write something worth reading! Quit wasting my time and start writing about actual events in Cleveland instead of penning these epithets toward your _perceived_ inferiors! These are personal grudges so thinly veiled they wouldn’t be allowed on the stage of a burlesque house. I know you’re an _opinion_ columnist, but why not write about something that actually matters?

Weblogs will be here, regardless of your (lack of) warm and fuzzy feelings for them. Guess what? So will poverty, crime, inequality and hunger. So will all of the people making a difference in others’ lives and a million things that are actually going _right_ in this fair city. What’s the difference? Unlike your distaste for weblogs, we actually care about those things. Like [Tori Amos](http://www.toriamos.com/popup.html) said in concert once: “Nobody gives a damn about my trolls.” We don’t read your columns for your report on the mean old weblogs. We use those columns to line our hamster cages.

Instead of writing about the latest person or group that’s wronged you, or about how you’re some sort of a shining diamond in the manure of Northeast Ohio, write about something that matters. Scribble a few little gregg ruled notebooks planning and writing about people and events that matter instead of talking about how the political bloggers are mere little gadflies? I’ll let you in on a little secret: _the gadflies cease to be insignificant if you complain about their buzzing._

_This little rant brought to you by [Buckeye Senate Blog](http://www.buckeyesenateblog.com/2006/02/connie_shultz_h.html) and [Brewed Fresh Daily](http://www.brewedfreshdaily.com/2006/02/06/links-for-2006-02-07/)._
