Tina, this is beautiful, easily the best and most interesting riff I've seen on any Clev-area blog in many weeks, which is saying something. And you're absolutely right about the role of doubt: it's a crucial component of any mature and authentic spiritual faith. It's also the fuel behind any search for one's own spiritual answers.

Thanks for all your comments!

Gloria: that's one of the things that I struggle with in conversations with some of my religious friends. A lot of people want to treat doubt as a conceptual pariah -- something that needs to be destroyed. They refuse to acknowledge that doubt is a necessary part of life. I guess it all comes down to the difference between dogma and critical thought.

"It√¢Ç«®Ç—¢s reconnecting with the history behind the city; the good and the bad."

Wonderfully said! No one does decay like we do.

Thanks again. You got my day off to a great start.

Tina--

Good take. It reminds me of a story about Columbus and how it grew these past few decades.

I can't remember his name, but there was a man hired to promote the cow town a number of years ago. He's since moved on to New York and has just recently retired. Anyway, much of what he did was an honest and enthusiastic rendition of "Gee, I love this town" in front of as many people as possible, and the idea was infectious.

I'll remember his name tomorrow.
