Feagler has more whine than Bartles and James. There’s investigative journalism (a la Roldo) then there’s the griping “where were the good old days??!” (a la Feagler). While it is true that some aspects of life that we are seeing too little of, such as critical thought and amiable dissent, there are things that we have now that are better than then. Before the 70’s, who in the mainstream talked about sustaining the environment? Before the 60’s, where was the regular discourse about women, people of color and the GLBT popultaion as equals, not pariahs or objects of abuse? There are some things that are better now (God bless TiVO) and some that were better then (vinyl still rocks!). It’s a combination of old and new that enriches us all. Feagler’s inability to see that makes him rather useless.
