Digging in the Dirt
I was able to pry myself out of bed and away from the television this morning to spend some time in my garden. Since the baby was asleep (after an _exciting_ evening adventure at the ER with the first ear infection of her short life) and D was working some Saturday morning overtime, I had the morning all to myself and wanted to sit for a while with the bugs and vegetables.
What a relief it is to be able to spend some time with something green! By Friday I felt like my soul was just absolutely bruised from the week’s events in the national news and our own household chaos these past few weeks. I needed to pay some attention to my tomatoes and squash. The brussell sprouts are coming along nicely, but are as of yet somewhat visually underwhelming and low maintenance after the early summer battle with the cabbage worms (I got rid of them with a home remedy, but that’s a different entry).
I took some photos because, as a user on [Daily Kos](http://www.dailykos.com) reminded me today, everyone needs a little beauty when the world gets this ugly. My dog, Kit, accompanied me for her “morning constitutional” and pranced around, avoiding _most_ of my extremely invasive squash vines and playing with a fallen green tomato.
This week, to use some powder blue language, has been a storm of shit. There’s no other way to describe it. However, as taking these photos reminded me, you can find beauty even in the midst of a world of shit.
